Inside and outside

This summer, I've been rather oblivious to the passage of time.  I've been a bit preoccupied, taking the luxury of deep introspection for the first time in my life.

Each summer day has flowed into the next, warm and sticky and sweet, like honey.  Until I awoke one morning, a few days ago, and noticed the welcomed scent and feel of fall in the air.

Outside, I noticed the strangest thing in our little garden - the forsythia, which is one of our first signs of spring, has little flowers tucked under its leaves. Forsythias typically have lots of happy little yellow flowers in spring before any green leaves appear anywhere.  I've never known it to bloom in the fall.

Have I just never paid attention before?

One thing I have noticed, though, is that even when you choose to define who you are and change your direction, there will always be people trying to block your chosen path.  There are even a few who will reject you for your honesty, even though it poses no threat to them, or to your relationship with them.

Personally, I think we should all be free to blossom in our own way.

I much prefer a world where you can show your true colors.

I think the most important thing I've learned this summer is this:

The beauty of truly being yourself
is in knowing,
and celebrating,
that we all bear fruit in different ways.
~ me

I also appreciate what the poet Sharon Olds said:

I was a late bloomer.
But anyone who blooms at all,
ever,
is very lucky.

May you bloomand may you celebrate your true self.
